HAL SCHAEFER

ARRANGEMENTS & ORCHESTRATIONS
SAMPLER
Playing time: 2:07
A medley taken from
the following Schaefer recordings:

  • “Love Walked In” – At a time when Mantovani’s commercial strings reigned, Schaefer’s edgy 1961 string arrangement and orchestration took a more challenging approach to this Gershwin tune. (From the album, “Music That Reminds Me of You”)
  • “No Business Like Show Business” – This complex, often dissonant, classically influenced arrangement of a traditionally uptempo number was recorded circa 1960. (From the album, “How Do You Like This Piano Playing?”)
  • “Blue Skies” – This 1955 Schaefer arrangement and orchestration uses five trombones, including one bass trombone, played by such jazz trombone luminaries as Billy Byers, Urbie Green and Tommy Mitchell. (From the album, “The RCA Victor Jazz Workshop”)
